A Triathlon is an event that consists of three different sports. During a Triathlon you are required to swim, bike and run, in that order. The swim is usually in open water. In Canada the Triathlon Race Season begins in June and continues throughout the summer with the last few races end of September. You can find Triathlon races that do have the swim in a pool but these races are usually in the early spring and fall months. In South-Western Ontario you can even find Women Only Races!
What Is A Duathlon
A Duathlon is an event that consists of two different sports. During a Duathlon you are required to run, bike and run, in that order. In Canada the Duathlon Race Season begins end of April and continues throughout the summer with the last few races in October. You can find Off Road Duathlon races that do have the cycling component on trails or Off Road.
How Far Is A Triathlon or A Duathlon
Triathlon distances can range at each event. Below you will find the general distances for each titled event. If you know which event you would like to try. Visit their website for specific race distances and all race information. Including use of Mountain Bikes and Hybrid Bikes.
Try A Tri - 300 m swim, 18 k bike, 2 k run OR can be but usually not farther then 500 m swim, 25 k bike, 4 k run
Sprint Distance - 750 m swim, 25-30 k bike, 5 - 7.5 k run
Olympic Distance Triathlon - 1500 m swim, 40-42 k bike, 10 k run
Half Ironman - 2 k swim, 90 k bike, 21.1 k run
Full Ironman - 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run
Everything You Need To Get Started
The Triathlon requires you to complete three different sports (Duathlon 2). For you to complete a Triathlon there are specific items you will need. The following items are necessary for the training and race. Items listed that are considered *optional* have a star beside them. They are not needed but would make your training more enjoyable. You don't need everything in March when we start. Beginning of March you will need your swim suit, cap and goggles, swim pass and running gear. Your bike and cycling equipment will be needed first week of April. The wetsuit you will need the first week of May.

Bike - Tri bike/Road bike is best (but any bike will do)
Bike Helmet Must have one (hard shell & safety certified)
Water bottle holder attached to the bike
*Bike Shoes (snap in or cleats)
*Slicks & Baskets/cages (if using a mountain bike)
@ Least 1 Biking/Running Outfit
Flashing Light on Bike (working bulb, it‘s the law)

What Will The Add Activity Traithlon & Duathlon Club Provide For ME?
Coaches provide Visual Coaching & Technical Correction at each training session. This teaches Add Activity athletes how to get the most out of their training efforts. Which will help athletes not to waste energy, it enables them to become more efficient with their efforts. Coaches encourage proper technique to which will help prevent wasted energy and injuries.
Athletes are provided with face-to-face communication with their coach at each training session, enjoy unlimited e-mail contact with their coaches. Add Activity believes this is the best way to help our athletes improve. It is not just about the hours you spend training. Practice doesn't make perfect...practice makes permanent. Best to be practicing correct techniques while maintaining good form.
Athletes need to understand the their training programs, the importance of proper sport-specific warm ups, nutrition & stretching. These extras that Add Activity provides for their athletes keeps athletes happy throughout the training program but most importantly it will help them prevent injuries.
